LIGHT
UP BANTAM LAKE & SUPPORT U.S. TROOPS FOR INDEPENDENCE DAY |
| The Bantam
Lake Ski Club is selling luminary
kits (red, white & blue paper bags with candles inside). The
bags should be placed on lawns, docks, and shorefronts on
July 4th & 5th and lit up at 8:30 pm in honor of the men and
women serving in our forces and those
whom we have lost. This should be a beautiful display and allow
us to honor these special people both financially and spiritually.
Proceeds will go to families of US Troops and the Bantam
Lake Ski Club 50th anniversary ski show. Each kit contains
12 luminaries and is sold for $10. |

Invasive
Weeds:
The Threat to Bantam Lake
Fanwort
has now invaded our lake!
Once thought to be contained in the Bantam River,
Fanwort has now made its way into the lake and infested
several shorelines. Click

| Right
now, this way of life is being dramatically threatened
by invasive and non-invasive weeds that have begun to choke
Bantam Lake. Based
on a study by Northeast Aquatic Research commissioned by Bantam
Lake Protective Association, it was found that the
following destructive plants have
been identified as being in immediate need of control.
Large
Leaf
Pondweed
native
Out of control
Very prolific,
and strangles water flow.
|
Eurasian
water milfoil
Non-native invasive
Makes
boating, swimming and fishing impossible. If left
unchecked, can spread very rapidly. Successfully
treated with herbicide in 2006 and 2007. Several areas
of re-infestation have occured in late summer 2007. |
Water
Naiad
native
Out
of control
Dense stringy weed that infects the surface of the
lake. For unknown reasons, a major population growth occured
in late summer 2007. |
Water
Chestnut
Non-native
invasive
This plant includes a sharp thorn near lake bottom
- hazardous to swimmers. Although some infestation
was observed in past few years, we believe hand pulling
efforts have eradicated this weed.. |
